Parent/Guardian Involvement
There are a variety of ways that parents/guardians can be connected to their child's education at Fort Hunt. The most important and easiest way to talk with your child about what they're learning, what they like and don't like about school, who their friends are and any ways they might need specific support. If you are able to walk your child to class in the morning, we encourage you to do so. It's a great way to see Fort Hunt, say hi to your child's teacher and perhaps connect with other families as you pass in the hallways.
At this time, parents are welcome to volunteer outside the classroom, not inside. At the start of school, it's critical that teachers have the space to develop routines with students. Sometimes, having a parent in the classroom can be distracting for students. However there are ways that parents can help out outside the classroom:
Become a member of the PTA Fox Squad. The Fox Squad takes requests from teachers to do prep tasks such as cutting, laminating and organizing materials. Parents can sign up to volunteer on the Fort Hunt PTA website.
Help with the monthly birthday book & cupcake distribution. One day a month, our PTA sponsors this event where students with a birthday that month get a book & treat during their lunch time. Again, sign up on the Fort Hunt PTA website.
At this time, we will not have parent/family volunteers in the cafeteria.
More information about the many ways the PTA supports Fort Hunt can be found on their home page at https://forthuntpta.membershiptoolkit.com/home
Depending on the field trip (size, space considerations), parents may be invited to join as a chaperone on a field trip. We ask that only parent/guardians serve as chaperones. Siblings, grandparents, etc, may not attend. Your child's teacher will share information as trips are planned.
